About
On the verge of the 21st century, achievements in various sciences suggest the truly realistic solution of the problem of extending the human life span. Special centers, which study this problem, have long existed in many countries of the world. The appearance of such an organization in Russia is not incidental. Since the very foundation it has been given support and sympathies of many gifted scientists of Russia, its programs and projects have attracted the interest of many political and social figures and representatives of the academic elite of this country, and numerous large companies of the world operating in the sphere of biotechnology and pharmaceuticals.
The main tasks of the Science of Longevity Foundation is to support projects intended to extend the full-fledged human life, as well as to treat certain diseases which were considered to be incurable previously, using the most advanced methods of genetic engineering, microbiology, immunology, and molecular diagnostics.
One key problem is that in modern science any research in the sphere of longevity extension and slowing down aging processes is a by-product of studies in various fields. The unique achievement of the Science of Longevity Foundation is that it focused research groups on the solution of problems directly or indirectly related to the extension of fully functional human life and, by combining the experience of Russian scientists and that of scientists from other countries, tries to achieve certain progress in this field.
It should be mentioned that the Board of the Science of Longevity Foundation recognizes and approves of all existing methodologies of health improvement and life span extension that are based on the promotion of rational diet, physical culture and sound environment but prefers to focus on the introduction of more radical scientific methods of deceleration of aging (involution) processes. Scientists who take part in the Science of Longevity Foundation's and its partners' projects in different spheres intend to extend the life span as mush as possible by excluding or preventing various factors which produce the negative effect on human health, and to try to inhibit various genetic, immunologic and endocrine mechanisms of the so-called human apoptosis (i.e., pre-programmed death).
However, in addition to this key task, the Science of Longevity Foundation, thanks to its partnership with some biotechnological companies of Russia, has outlined and successfully implemented programs of treatment of certain diseases which were previously recognized as incurable, and takes part in the development of new-generation medicines and food additives which will be able to cure and prevent many human diseases.
